Inspired building design

Many of the winners of the recent Auckland Architecture Awards left me cold, but I LOVE this one! It's the Ironbank Development by RTA Studio. There are more views of it in The Architectural Review, and it looks amazing from all angles! It manages to be boxy and organic at the same time, quite an achievement.

I like everything about it but the styrofoam front, which is supposed to make it respond to the Edwardian building fronts on K Road but which strikes me as a cop-out. Still, the courtyard is lovely, as are the stacked, rusting containers.

And it is no bad thing to be featured in Archi Rev.

You mean that funny blue and green thing, Paul? I didn't even realise it was part of the same project until I read the captions more carefully!

That funny blue and green thing houses the lifts. It is quite impressive in situ.

Buildings always make more sense when you can walk around them. I'm in Auckland briefly next week, so I might glimpse it then.

Really? I'm in Christchurch next week. When will you be in Auckland?
